Tips When Hiring a Car (Perth)
When hiring a car, there are many tips that you can find online. But which ones are true and which ones are not? The simple answer is that it depends on where you are located. For example, Australia might have different regulations to that in Asian countries. In this post, we’d like to give some quick and dirty tips given by a Perth car rental agency.
Checking Existing Damage to Rental Car
You will no doubt know that any damage done to the car upon its return. So it makes perfect sense to double check, triple check if there are any existing damage. Many companies are good and will let you know of any existing damage such as dents etc. But some might miss a dent or two and spot it after the return of the car. Also make sure that it is in writing on the check list given to you prior to handing over the keys. We’ve heard of a couple of horror stories when they were charged for a minor damage that they are confident that were not their fault. Prevention is definitely a lot better than learning it the hard way!
Rental Insurance Coverage
Just like when driving your very own car, making sure you are appropriately insured for the rental car is very important. The last thing you want is being involved in an unfortunate accident and not being covered and having to fork out the repairs bills yourself. So make sure that you check what you are at least covered for third party damage. But of course, ideally you’d want to be fully covered. Another thing when it comes to car insurance is the amount of excess payable when making a claim. Too many times, people are being caught with a high excess when making a claim. By default, most car rental companies will apply a standard excess amount. But you can opt for a lower excess payable amount, however this will increase your hire rate. So the trick is to find a happy medium, where you are paying a comfortable hire rate but at the same time, not being hit with a ridiculously high excess amount.
Area of Usage Fees
Let’s face it, no one likes paying too much. With any other purchases, if you are not careful, hiring a car may also find you paying more. One of the culprit is area of usage fee, so make sure you know exactly what is allowed and not allowed. Most firms will have an area of radius that you are allowed to drive the car. If you go beyond the prescribed area, you may be charged an additional fee. So make sure you ask about the allowed radius to avoid the unexpected fee.
